The Zimbabwe brown button spider is a small, venomous spider that lives in parts of southern Africa. It is one of the brown button or brown widow spiders, a group of relatives of the black widow. Its bite can cause unpleasant symptoms, but it is not usually as venomous as the black button or black widow spiders.1

Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa, where it has been recorded in the Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo and Western Cape provinces1

It lives in a web built low in vegetation, at altitudes from 982 to 1651 metres above sea level. It has been found in grassland and savanna habitats. Notable South African sites include Roodeplaatdam Nature Reserve and Stellenbosch.1
