Tityus silvestris is a small forest scorpion that lives only in northern South America. It is one of the smallest scorpions in its family, the Buthidae. Although it was once thought to be harmless, a sting has caused serious symptoms in at least one person, so it matters to doctors.1

It was once believed not to cause serious accidents. However, a 39-year-old man stung by this species needed hospital care, and his symptoms got worse before he was discharged seven days later. It is therefore considered to be of medical importance.1
