Brazil's lancehead is a venomous pitviper that lives on the ground in the equatorial forests of northern South America. It is a stoutly built snake with a pinkish or reddish-grey body covered in dark blotches. It is uncommon, and it is greatly feared by indigenous people of southeastern Colombia.1
