The Peruvian black scorpion is a dark brown to black scorpion found in South America, where it is known to live in Peru. Its venom is strong enough to cause serious symptoms, so it should be left alone. It hides during the day and is mainly active at night.1

Its venom is mainly made of excitatory neurotoxins, which attack the nerves and make them overactive. Local symptoms can include swelling (oedema), pain at the sting and paraesthesia (tingling or prickling).
