Hemprich's coral snake
Hemprich's coral snake is a small, venomous snake that lives in the rain forests of northern South America. It spends most of its time hidden in leaf litter on the forest floor, so it is rarely seen. It is one of the many coral snakes whose bright black, white and orange bands warn that it is dangerous.1

Ni ngay ko xàmmee
- Triads of black rings separated by white rings, as in other coral snakes1
- The black rings in each triad are very wide, and the white rings are very narrow1
- The coloured rings between the triads are narrow and orange, not wide and red1
- The anal plate (a scale near the tail) is undivided, which is unlike other Micrurus species1
Ñu ngi koy faral di jaxasoo ak: Other coral snakes have wide red rings between their black-and-white triads. Hemprich's coral snake has narrow orange rings there instead, and its undivided anal plate sets it apart from all other Micrurus species.1

Xibaar
Velvet worms make up most of its diet, which is why one of its common names is the worm-eating coral snake.1
Its black rings are very wide and its white rings very narrow, which sets its colour pattern apart from other coral snakes.1
Its anal plate is undivided, a feature found in no other species of the genus Micrurus.1
It is terrestrial and mostly burrowing (fossorial), so much of its life is spent under the ground and in leaf litter.1
