The Mérida coral snake is a small venomous snake, a member of the Elapidae family. It lives only in the Cordillera de Mérida mountains in western Venezuela, in shrubland about 900 metres up. Its bright red, white and black rings make it a typical coral snake in appearance.1

Ni ngay ko xàmmee

  • Red, white and black rings, as in many coral snakes.1
  • Black rings come in groups of three (triads), with narrow white rings separating the black rings in each triad.1
  • Triads alternate with red rings, and some scales in the red rings have small black tips.1
  • The outer black rings of each triad are irregular, reduced or interrupted, which is unusual for triadal coral snakes.1
