The acuminate bush viper is a tree-dwelling snake with long, sharp-pointed scales along its back. It is venomous, like all vipers, and lives in the forests of western Uganda. It is a close relative of the bush viper Atheris hispida.1

Long scales on the back of the head and front half of the body, shaped like hollow curves that thin to a sharp point.1
A pentagonal (five-sided) rostral shield, the scale at the tip of the snout, with two large suprarostral scales above it.1

常被誤認為： It is closely related to Atheris hispida. The two can be told apart by counts of scales: A. acuminata has five interorbitals (scales between the eyes) and six supralabials (scales along the upper lip), while A. hispida has 6 to 10 interorbitals and 7 to 10 supralabials. Its rostral shield has two suprarostrals, where A. hispida has three.1
