Bogert's coral snake is a venomous snake that lives only in southern Mexico. It is found on the Pacific coast of the state of Oaxaca. Its bright red, black and yellow rings are a warning to keep well away from it.1

  • Black snout, followed by a yellow band across the head and a black band at the back of the head.1
  • Red body with 16 to 19 black rings.1
  • Each black ring is edged with narrow yellow or white rings.1
  • Medium-sized for its genus. Adults are usually 38 to 60 cm (15 to 24 in) long, including the tail.1
