The Hebrew cone is a small sea snail with a black-and-white patterned shell. It lives in shallow, warm seas and is one of the most widely spread members of its group. Like all cone snails, it can sting people, so it should be treated with care.1

  • Small, squat shell with a rounded, short spire1
  • White shell with a pattern of blackish squares, sometimes tinged rose1
  • Three or four bands of irregular dark chocolate or nearly black markings1
  • Surface has fine grooves, which are more prominent near the dark-stained base1

Conus judaeus is extremely similar in appearance. The two are best told apart by close examination of the radular teeth, which are tiny tooth-like structures inside the mouth.1

Like all cone snails, it is capable of stinging humans. Live ones should not be handled.1
