The many-banded coral snake is a venomous snake that lives in forests in Central America and northwestern South America. Its body is banded with rings of only red and black, which is unusual for its genus. Its venom is strong enough to be dangerous to people.1

  • On the body, the red rings are narrower than the black rings.1
  • On the tail, the red rings are wider than the black rings.1
  • It has 40–73 black rings on the body and 2–5 black rings on the tail.1
