The pink meanie is a large jellyfish, a true jellyfish in the class Scyphozoa. It lives in the Gulf of Mexico and hunts other jellyfish. Its huge size and long, trailing tentacles make it one of the most striking jellyfish in its region.1

Larger individuals, with a bell wider than 100 mm, feed almost only on jellyfish of the genus Aurelia. Their tentacles create a large fishing area, and their oral arms trap and digest several prey items at once. Smaller individuals mainly eat zooplankton, which are tiny animals that drift in the water.1

  • The bell can grow up to 70 cm across.1
  • It has extensive, elaborate oral arms and tentacles.1
  • Its tentacles can stretch 25 to 30 m, a very large fishing area for catching prey.1

  • 絕對不要碰、抓或捉弄野生動物，就算是很小的動物，就算牠看起來在睡覺或已經死了也一樣。
