The white-bellied carpet viper is a venomous snake from West and Northwest Africa. It lives along the edges of deserts, in dry grassland, and near oases and dry river beds. It is one of the vipers, a group of snakes that bite and inject venom.1

  • It has light, oblique crossbars or saddles on a darker background.1
  • Its flanks have dark triangular, subtriangular or circular markings with light or white edges.1

  • Its body is rather stout, and its dorsal scales are rough and heavily keeled.1
