The winged box jellyfish is a transparent sea creature with four long, wing-like arms, each with a pink tentacle. It is also called a sea wasp. It lives in warm and subtropical seas across much of the world, and its stings can be very painful.1

Collected specimens had small crustaceans in their bodies, including hyperiid amphipods, small carid shrimps and euphausiids (krill-like animals). These were found in the gut or under the umbrella.1

Its stings cause a rash and pain. The rash and pain usually fade without treatment within 20 minutes to one day. A few victims have generalised reactions, persistent pain, or an itchy rash that returns.1

No confirmed deaths have been caused by its stings. However, the pain can be severe.1

如果牠螫人

離開水裡，把觸手拿掉（戴手套或用布）。
熱帶箱形水母：在螫傷處倒醋至少 30 秒，求救，並準備好做心肺復甦術（CPR）。藍瓶水母和大多數其他水母：用海水沖洗，再用熱水止痛。

Before being grouped with a single species name, it was called Alatina mordens in Australia and Alatina moseri in Hawaii. These are now considered the same species.1

Because there is no preserved type specimen, scientists have found it hard to confirm which earlier reports refer to this species.1
