The dwarf sea snake is a venomous sea snake that lives in the sea rather than on land. It is found across a wide area, from the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea to the coasts of China and Queensland in Australia.1

  • Bluish or greyish blue on the back, fading to yellowish on the belly.1
  • Has 35 to 58 deep bluish-black crossbands across the body.1
  • The crossbands are as wide as or wider than the gaps between them when young, but become faint in older snakes.1
  • The head is black. Juveniles may have a yellowish, horseshoe-shaped mark on the head.1
  • Adults can reach a total length of 74 cm (2 ft 5 in).1
