The golden fireworm is a segmented bristleworm, a type of marine worm. It lives on sandy and silty seabeds close to coral reefs across the Indo-Pacific. Its fine bristles are venomous, so it is one to keep your hands away from.1

  • Body is made of 37 visible segments.1
  • Each segment has a distinctive ocelli: a purple or dark marking with a white outline, placed in the middle of the upper side.1
  • Small white to deep brown gills sit on both sides of the back, just before the bristles.1
  • Whitish, fine, sharp bristles cover the sides of the body. These bristles are venomous.1
