The striped sea snake is a venomous snake that lives in the sea. It is found along coasts from the Indian Ocean to the western Pacific, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia and southern China. Like other venomous snakes, it should be left alone and admired from a safe distance.1

  • Has a small head and a long body that is slender towards the front1
  • The front part of the body, including the head and neck, is dark olive to black1
  • Has pale oval yellowish spots on the sides, which sometimes join up as crossbars1
  • The rear of the body is greyish, and the underside is whitish1
  • Young snakes may have dark rhomboidal spots that run down the sides and form complete rings1
