Anderson's crocodile newt is a stout, dark salamander that lives in forests and wet places on the Ryukyu Islands of Japan. It is special because it can push its own ribs through its skin and glands to release a toxin at a threat.1

Toxikoa ala pozoitsua? Animalia pozoitsuek pozoia sartzen dute kosk edo ziztada baten bidez. Animalia toxikoak kaltegarriak dira ukitzeko edo jateko. Hau toxikoa da.

It lives in broad-leaved evergreen forests, secondary forests, grasslands and swamps, and has also been found in and near sugar cane fields. It breeds in standing water such as ponds and temporary pools. Outside the breeding season, adults hide in leaf litter, rocky crevices, and under rocks and logs, so they are hard to see.1

Pozoi-ahalmena

Arantza pozoitsuak

Zer egiten du bere pozoiak?

The newt's glands produce tetrodotoxin, a toxin that is released when the ribs puncture the skin and glands.1

Zein arriskutsua da pertsonentzat?

Arriskua pertsonentzat: ArinaErle-ziztada bat bezala edo gutxiago. Ia kaltegabea pertsonentzat.

Zer egiten du beldurtzen denean?

Bere arantzek zulatzen bazaituzte

  • Norbaitek bat ukitu badu: garbitu eskuak ondo eta ez ukitu begiak edo ahoa. Haur edo maskota batek bat miazkatu edo jan badu: deitu zure intoxikazio-zentrora edo larrialdi-zenbakira.

Deitu beti lehenik zure larrialdi-zenbakira (112, 000, 911). Lehen sorospenei buruzko orientabide orokorra da hau, ez mediku-aholkua. Lehen sorospenen oinarriak

Egon seguru

  • Ez ukitu, ez harrapatu eta ez zirikatu inoiz animalia basati bat, txikia izan arren, eta lo edo hilda dagoela badirudi ere.
  • Utzi tartea. Bat aurkitzen baduzu, egon lasai, egin atzera poliki eta utzi bere bidetik joaten.
  • Bere arantzek zulatzen bazaituzte: egon lasai, egon geldi, deitu zure larrialdi-zenbakira (112, 000, 911) edo joan ospitalera azkar. Gogoratu nolakoa zen, argazki batek laguntzen du.

Ez dabil zure atzetik. Pozoia janaria harrapatzeko edo bere burua babesteko erabiltzen du, eta askoz nahiago du ezkutatu. Seguru egoteari buruz gehiago

Datuak

1

It is one of few animals that can use its ribs to pierce its own skin and glands to deliver a defensive toxin.1

2

Its ribs have an unusual structure, lacking muscle attachments at their ends.1

3

Some of its glands can look lighter in colour than the skin around them, which may mean a higher concentration of toxin there.1

4

Paved roads with roadside gutters are reportedly leading to many of these newts ending up as roadkill.1

5

It is threatened by habitat loss and by collection for the illegal pet trade.1

6

It breeds from February to July, with activity peaking from March to May.1
