Kipling's jumping spider is a colourful jumping spider that lives in Central America, including Mexico, Costa Rica and Guatemala. Unlike most spiders, it gets most of its food from plants, mainly small nutrient-rich nubs that grow on acacia trees.1

Humpito
Its diet is mostly plants, more strongly plant-based than that of any other known omnivorous spider.1
Populations of several hundred spiders have been found on single acacia trees in Mexico, with more than twice as many females as males.1
Its genus is one of four named after characters from Kipling's stories, along with Akela, Messua and Nagaina.1
Only the male was described in 1896, and the female was not described until 100 years later, by Wayne Maddison.1
It appears to breed throughout the year.1
