Brown forest cobra
ŊatgolThe brown forest cobra is a snake that lives in forests, thickets and wooded grasslands in East and Central Africa. It was once thought to be the same animal as the forest cobra, but scientists now count it as a separate species. Its brown back and pale throat help people tell it apart from its close relatives.1

The longest recorded brown forest cobra measured 269 cm.1
Adults from the Lake Victoria area and parts of the Congo Basin are entirely black on the back.1
For a long time it was thought to be the same as the forest cobra, or a subspecies of it, until differences in its body shape and genes showed it is a separate species.1
