Spitting spider
The spitting spider is a small spider that catches its prey by spitting sticky, venomous silk over it. It is found in many parts of the world, and it often lives in houses, where it wanders about at night.1

It spits two silk threads in a zigzag pattern in about 1/600 of a second.1
Its silk glands in the front of the body (cephalothorax) are linked to its venom glands, so it can make venomous silk.1
It stops about 10 mm from its prey and measures the distance with one front leg before it spits, so as not to disturb the victim.1
It is thought to find prey using long hearing hairs on its legs.1
