When threatened it can strike with its fangs as a last resort. Its urticating hairs, which it flicks from its abdomen with its back legs, cause skin irritation and, if inhaled, irritate the nose and throat.1

E dira eng fa e tshogile?

It hisses (stridulates) to warn off predators, rears up to show its fangs, and flicks irritating urticating hairs from its abdomen.1

Dintlha

1

It hisses by rubbing body parts together, a sound called stridulation, to warn predators.1

2

It uses urticating hairs as a defence. These hairs are microbarbed, so they can irritate skin and the airways.1

3

It can rear up and expose its fangs as a warning before it strikes.1

4

Young spiders have pink tarsi on the front two pairs of legs, which fades as they grow up.1
