The Chaco lancehead is a venomous viper that lives in forests across parts of South America. It is one of the main causes of snakebite in Argentina, so it is an important snake to recognise. Its bite can be serious, and it should be left alone.1

Its diet is mostly mammals, including rodents, along with frogs and lizards. It has also been seen eating other snakes, including Chironius maculoventris and Epictia albipuncta.1
