Okùn-ọwọ́ tó ń ta ni (tentacles)The Japanese sea nettle is a large jellyfish that lives in the northwest Pacific Ocean, including the waters around Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China. It has long, curtain-like arms and many tentacles, and its sting is strong enough to be dangerous to people.1

- The bell is 15 to 21 cm across and divided into 8 sections.1
- The outer surface has 32 reddish stripes running from the centre to the edge.1
- Four oral arms hang from the centre of the bell and are 2 to 3 times as long as the bell is wide.1
- The oral arms are delicate and curtain-like, with fringed edges.1
- About 40 elastic tentacles line the edge of the bell.1
A sábà máa ń ṣì í mọ̀ sí: The sea nettle was once confused with C. melanaster, which is larger and lives further north. Because of this, jellyfish kept in public aquariums have often been wrongly labelled as C. melanaster.1
