The common cat snake is a rear-fanged snake found across South Asia. It is active at night and hides during the day, often in houses. It is an excellent climber.1

It spends the day coiled up in palmyra fronds, among bushes, in thatched roofs, under tree bark or under stones. It is common in many areas and often found in houses, though it is rarely seen because it is nocturnal.1

  • Yellowish-olive or pale grey along the back1
  • White or black-edged zigzag markings on the back, which may be connected1
  • A distinct pale Y-shaped mark on top of the head, sometimes black-edged1
  • White or tan belly, which can have a series of small brown spots along each side1
  • Total length around 91 cm, including a tail of about 18 cm1

常被誤認為： It strongly resembles the venomous Echis carinatus in colour and shape. In India, the two species have almost identical geographic ranges.1
