Günther's garter snake is a venomous snake that lives in parts of Central Africa. It belongs to the same large family as cobras and their relatives. It is known for its striking black and white banded young and for its strong size difference between males and females.1

The pattern fades as the snake matures.1
Adults are uniformly greyish black on the back and lighter grey on the underside.1
Males are significantly larger than females, reaching about 56 cm snout to vent, while females reach about 38.5 cm.1
