• Females are 5–9 mm long, with a black carapace (top of the body), black legs and a black underside with white spots.1
• The upper side of the abdomen is white or yellow with black spots.1
• Females have six spine-like projections on the abdomen.1
• On a white abdomen the spines can be red or black; on a yellow abdomen they are always black.1
• Males are much smaller, at 2–3 mm long, with a grey abdomen with white spots and four or five stubby spines.1
