The Haitian giant centipede is a large centipede that can grow up to 19 cm long. It lives in the Caribbean and northern South America, and it has been reported as far north as Georgia in the USA. It drew wide news coverage after an unusual incident in a Florida Keys park.1

In John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, an extremely rare rim rock crown snake (Tantilla oolitica) died of asphyxiation while trying to eat one of these centipedes. The centipede also died.1

This is a large species of centipede, growing up to 17–19 cm in length.1

Its colour varies greatly depending on where it lives, though it is generally brownish or reddish.1

Some American forms are yellow to orange in colour.1
