Hello arano
It lives from the intertidal zone down to 2,000 m, in cold, oxygen-rich waters. It spends most of its time in dens, which can be caves, holes under rock, or rubbish on the seafloor such as bottles, tyres, pipes and barrels. Dens are often found in kelp and rocky areas.1

The female lays between 120,000 and 400,000 eggs on a hard surface and guards them for about 6 months, until they hatch. She dies soon after the young hatch. Hatchlings are about the size of a grain of rice, and very few survive to adulthood.1
