The Amazonian coral snake is a venomous snake that lives in northern South America. It is the largest snake in its genus, Micrurus, and it hunts in the leaf litter of forests and savannas. Its bright ring pattern is easy to spot, but other snakes copy it.1

  • Rings in repeating groups of three: a black ring, then a lighter ring of white, yellow or greenish grey, then a black ring.1
  • Red rings separate each group of three rings.1
  • The black rings are the narrowest and the red rings are the fewest.1

Ina jiiɓindiree e: The snake Simophis rhinostoma copies this species' colour pattern, so the two can be mistaken for each other.1
