Fringed jumping spider
The fringed jumping spider is a small jumping spider from Australia and Southeast Asia. It is a skilled hunter that often catches other spiders, including web-building spiders. Its slow, jerky walk helps it creep up on prey without being noticed.1

When disturbed, it often holds a cryptic rest posture, pulling its legs and palps close to hide their outline, and most Portia species leap upwards 100 to 150 mm.1

Anndal
It can hunt inside another spider's web. Its slow, choppy movements and leg flaps make it look like leaf debris blown in the breeze.1
Its main eyes are very sharp. It can tell prey and other spiders apart from up to 280 mm away, about 47 times its own body length.1
In Queensland, it uses a 'cryptic stalking' technique that stops most jumping spider prey from recognising it as a predator, or even as an animal.1
Its hunting is so flexible that it is sometimes called an 'eight-legged cat', after the adaptable hunting of a lion.1
Unlike other Portia species, females do not eat their mates during courtship or after mating.1
