The Mexican west coast rattlesnake is a large venomous pit viper. It lives on the coastal plain of western Mexico. It is one of the largest rattlesnakes in the world, so its size and its strong venom make it one to respect.1

Its habitat is mostly tropical thorn forest, extending into tropical deciduous forest. Around Colima, where it is particularly plentiful, the land is mostly treeless with short grass, scattered mesquite, acacias, thorny bushes and many large cacti. In the lowlands, most specimens are found crossing roads at night.1
