Russell's lionfish is a striped reef and seabed fish with venomous spines along its fins. It lives in the Indo-Pacific Ocean, from eastern Africa to Japan and Australia. Its spines carry venom, so it is one to admire from a distance.1

It lives in muddy seabed areas of sheltered shallow estuaries, bays and coastal waters, and in quiet offshore reefs. It is found at depths of 15 to 60 metres (49 to 197 feet).1
