Smooth-scaled death adder
The smooth-scaled death adder is a venomous snake found in Southeast Asia and Oceania, including Papua New Guinea and parts of Indonesia. Despite its name, it is not a viper like most snakes called adders. It lies in wait for fast-moving prey such as birds and small mammals.1

No anndirto nde
- Despite the name 'adder', it is an elapid, a member of the cobra family, not a viper1
- Venomous snake whose family also includes coral snakes, mambas and sea snakes1
- Females grow larger than males1
Ina jiiɓindiree e: Most snakes commonly called 'adders' are vipers in the family Viperidae. This species belongs to Elapidae, the family of cobras, coral snakes, mambas and sea snakes, so the name alone does not show what kind of snake it is.1
