The white-lipped pit viper is a venomous snake that lives in trees in Southeast Asia. It is green with pale colouring around the head, which helps it blend in among leaves. Its bite can cause serious harm, so it is important to recognise it and keep well away.1

  • The side of the head below the eyes is yellow, white or pale green, much lighter than the rest of the head1
  • The belly is green, yellowish or white1
  • Males have a light stripe along the sides of the body, which females do not have1
  • Maximum length is about 60 cm for males and 81 cm for females1
