Razi's viper
Razi's viper is a venomous snake, a type of viper, found only in Iran. It lives in mountain areas and in a drier, desert-like place near Lake Bakhtegan. It is special because it was named after a famous scientist from the tenth century.1
Ni ngay ko xàmmee
- It has 25 mid-dorsal scales, the rows of scales along the middle of its back. Its close relative M. lebetina schweizeri has 23.1
- It has one large supraocular scale above each eye, which it shares with M. lebetina cernovi.1
- It has longer anterior chin-shields, the large scales at the front of the lower jaw, than its close relative M. lebetina.1
- It has a larger number of ventral scales, the wide scales on the belly, than M. lebetina lebetina and M. lebetina turanica.1
Ñu ngi koy faral di jaxasoo ak: It is most often compared with its close relative M. lebetina, which it split from about 10.5 million years ago. It is told apart from other Macrovipera vipers mainly by scale counts, such as the number of mid-dorsal and ventral scales and the size of the supraocular scales.1
