Red-headed mouse spider
The red-headed mouse spider is a burrowing spider found across mainland Australia. It lives in open forest and desert shrubland, and the male has a bright red head. It is a venomous spider that people meet in the wild, so it helps to know what it looks like.1

Xibaar
Its spiderlings can travel by wind, a method called ballooning. Mygalomorph spiders normally disperse by walking, so this is unusual for them.1
The spider digs a burrow up to 55 cm deep, with two trapdoors.1
Males have a bright red head and jaws, which sets them apart from the darker females.1
It is the most widely distributed Missulena species, found throughout mainland Australia.1
