Snouted cobra
The snouted cobra is a large, highly venomous snake that lives in southern Africa. It is a night hunter that often makes its home in old termite mounds. Because it can deliver a dangerous bite, it is important to know what it looks like and where it lives.1

Its venom is neurotoxic, meaning it attacks the nerves. A bite can affect breathing, and if untreated it may cause respiratory failure and death. Early symptoms include pain and local swelling, which may lead to blistering.1
