名字的由來： The genus is named after the Illawarra region, where the spider was found. The species name honours Graeme Wishart, who collected many mygalomorph spiders in that region.1

The Illawarra funnel-web spider is a brown, burrowing spider from south-eastern Australia. It is the only species in its genus, and it is found only in the Illawarra region of southern New South Wales. Its venom is similar to that of a funnel-web species known to cause dangerous effects in people, although it is not one of the species listed as dangerous.1

  • Adults are basically brown.1
  • The abdomen has an obvious pattern of narrow chevrons (V-shaped stripes).1
  • Mature males have a body length of about 15 millimetres, and females are of a similar size and appearance.1
  • Both sexes are said to have an "ant-like" smell.1

常被誤認為： Males can be told apart from other atracid spiders by a broad row of spines on the underside of the feet of all four pairs of legs. Females can be told apart by their first pair of legs, which have no spines, have the metatarsus partly fused to the tarsus, and have enlarged claws.1

A 2001 study of the peptides (small protein chains) in atracine spider venom found that the venom of this spider has a similar profile to that of Atrax robustus. Atrax robustus is a species known to have caused dangerous effects in humans.1

如果牠咬人
