The rough-scaled death adder is a venomous snake from the Elapidae family. It lives in northern Australia, especially Arnhem Land. It is a ground hunter that waits in grass for its prey.1

It is a generalist that eats small mammals, birds, lizards and frogs. It is a ground hunter and can wait for days in grass for food. Smaller snakes tend to eat more lizards and frogs, while larger ones eat more mammals.1

  • Slender to stout body, either one plain colour or patterned with crossbands1
  • Scales in 19 to 23 rows around the middle of the body, which may be smooth or keeled (have a central ridge)1
  • Angular head with raised scales above the eyes1
  • Small eyes with vertically elliptical (up-and-down oval) pupils1
  • Slender tail that is clearly distinct from the body, ending in a flattened spiny tip that may be black or yellow, contrasting with the body colour1

  • 絕對不要碰、抓或捉弄野生動物，就算是很小的動物，就算牠看起來在睡覺或已經死了也一樣。

  • 如果被牠咬了：保持冷靜，保持不動，打緊急電話（112、000、911）或趕快去醫院。記住牠的樣子，有照片會很有幫助。
