The meadow viper is a small, rare venomous snake. It is the smallest viper in Europe, and it lives in a few scattered areas in southeast France, central Italy and parts of eastern Europe. It is in danger of dying out, so it matters a great deal for conservation.1

  • Body is thick, with a narrow head and a rough look1
  • Snout is not turned upwards1
  • Several large scales or plates sit on top of the head1
  • Dark skin shows between the 19 rows of keeled back scales1

常被误认为： It is sometimes confused with the asp viper (Vipera aspis) and the common adder (Vipera berus). The meadow viper differs in its snout, which is not upturned, and in having 19 rows of keeled scales on its back.1
