The Central Asian pit viper is a venomous snake that lives across northern Asia. It is a fairly stout snake, and its bite can harm people. Its scientific name is Gloydius intermedius.1

The colour pattern varies, but usually has 28 to 45 dark blotches or crossbands running down the back and flanks.1
Light, irregular areas lie between the dark blotches.1
A dark brown to black stripe runs from behind the eye to the angle of the jaw, outlined by a light line above and cream-coloured scales below.1
