Ni ngay ko xàmmee

  • Reddish-brown head and body with about six vertical dark bands, separated by thin white lines.1
  • Large pectoral fins that flare out to the side. They are clear and unbanded.1
  • Two white horizontal lines on the caudal peduncle, the narrow base of the tail.1
  • A dorsal fin with 12 or 13 long, venomous spines.1
  • Usually about 20 cm (8 in) long, and can grow to about 24 cm (9 in).1

Ñu ngi koy faral di jaxasoo ak: The Red Sea endemic P. cinctus is very similar in appearance. The clearfin lionfish mainly differs in having shorter fin rays and, on average, slightly different markings. Otherwise, it is easily told apart from other lionfish species.1
