The demon stinger is a fish from the Western Pacific that lies half-buried in sand or coral during the day. It has venomous spines on its back, so it is best left alone.1

  • Body is red or sandy yellow with light blotches, matching the sand or coral around it1
  • Skin has no scales except along the lateral line, and is covered with spines and wart-like glands that give a knobby look1
  • Flattened, concave head with the eyes, mouth and nostrils projecting upwards and outwards1
  • When disturbed, it fans out its brightly coloured pectoral and caudal fins1
  • Adults reach about 26 cm in body length1

常被誤認為： Inimicus filamentosus and Inimicus sinensis look almost identical. The key difference is on the underside of the pectoral fins: the black bands of filamentosus are fainter, and the bands of sinensis have yellow spots.1
