The old wife is a striped fish with knife-like spines on its back fins. It lives in the cooler coastal waters of Australia. Its spines are widely considered to inflict a painful venom, so it is worth knowing what it looks like.1

  • Silver-and-black, vertical, zebra-like stripes along the body1
  • Deep, flattened body with a concave (dipped) forehead, a shape typical of butterflyfishes1
  • Two prominent dorsal fins on its back, with the second very long and sickle-shaped1
  • Its back fins carry bony, knife-like spines1
  • Grows up to 50 cm long1

常被誤認為： The Moonlighter (Tilodon sexfasciatus) has a similar range and appearance to the old wife. The name "zebra-fish" is also used for Girella zebra, a different fish.1
