Has a pair of half-tubes at the rear end of the body that lock together to form a breathing siphon.1
Pushes the tip of this breathing tube above the water surface to take in air.1
Young ones have no developed siphon and instead breathe through six pairs of spiracles (small breathing holes) along the abdomen.1
