The starry weever is a sea fish that lives on the seabed, often hidden under sand. It has venomous spines on its gill cover and first back fin, so it can hurt people who step on it or handle it. It lives in the eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea.1

  • Many brownish or blackish speckles on the back and sides, some forming rings, especially on the flanks near the lateral line1

  • Back fin in two parts: the front part has six or seven spines, the rear part has none1
