Ina ŋataThe black forest cobra is a venomous snake from West Africa. It was only recognised as its own species fairly recently, after scientists found clear differences from the forest cobra. It lives in the Upper Guinea forests, from Togo to Guinea-Bissau.1

Anndal
Adults often become darker with age, a process called ontogenetic melanism.1
Adults can grow to a maximum recorded length of 264 cm.1
Scientists long thought the black forest cobra was the same animal as the forest cobra, until morphological and genetic differences showed it is a separate species.1
