Broad-headed snake
The broad-headed snake is a small to medium-sized venomous snake that lives only in the Sydney Basin in New South Wales, Australia. It is black with yellow markings and is rare today, so it is protected. It is easy to mistake for a young diamond python.1

Ni ngay ko xàmmee
- Black, with numerous irregular yellow markings arranged in narrow cross-bands.1
- Small to medium-sized, averaging 60 cm in total length including the tail, though some records show lengths up to 90 cm.1
- Often found on sandstone cliffs and rocks in the colder months, and in hollow trees in summer.1
Ñu ngi koy faral di jaxasoo ak: The young diamond python is superficially very similar and lives in the same habitat, so inexperienced people can easily confuse the two. In 2023, a man was bitten in the Southern Highlands of NSW after capturing a broad-headed snake he believed was a diamond python.1
