Spiny-tailed monitor
The spiny-tailed monitor is a lizard from northern and western Australia. It lives among dry, rocky hills and is known for its round tail covered in spiny scales. It is a small monitor, and it hides in rock cracks and burrows during the day.1

Xibaar
About 70% of the water this lizard needs comes from its food.1
Females have been seen sharing large burrows and nesting together in them.1
Sheltering underground gives it access to humid conditions, which helps it stay hydrated in a very dry land.1
Pet-trade spiny-tailed monitors are sold as two colour types, the red ackie and the yellow ackie, which are likely two different subspecies.1
