The brown spotted pit viper is a venomous snake that lives in parts of Asia, from northeastern India to Taiwan. It is one of the pit vipers, a group of snakes that harm people by biting. It is also known as the Taiwan habu.1

  • Grey or olive-brown colour on the upper body.1
  • A row of large brown spots with black edges runs along the back.1
  • Smaller spots run along the sides of the body.1
  • The head is brownish on top and whitish underneath.1
  • The belly is whitish, heavily speckled with light brown, and the tail is brownish with dark spots on the top.1
